Die Rechnungslegungsvorschriften in Teil 2 beziehen sich vorrangig auf US-GAAP. Allerdings besteht bereits in vielen Bereichen Übereinstimmung zwischen US-GAAP und IAS/IFRS.
Nach Erklärung der zuständigen Standardsetter FASB und IASB wird eine vollständige Harmonisierung bereits mittelfristig angestrebt.
Bis dahin wird (laut IMA) bei der CMA-Ausbildung und -Prüfung ein größeres Gewicht auf von den US-GAAP abweichende Regelungen in den IAS/IFRS gelegt.
Im Gegensatz zum CPA-Examen enthält das CMA-Examen keine detaillierten Fragen zum US-Steuerrecht, zur Haushaltsführung kommunaler Betriebe oder Stiftungen.
Steuerliche Grundlagen sowie Ethik/Berufsrecht sind in allen Prüfungsteilen in geringem Umfang enthalten.
